Historical fiction writers have to do a lot of research. Some of this I put in my blogs if I think the topic is interesting for readers either as background to my books or just as history trivia.

They say books take you on journeys and open doors or windows to other worlds. When you become immersed in a good book it feels this way. That is why I try to create the worlds of my novels to be places I’d like to go to or set in eras I’d fancy time travelling to. So, because history fascinates me, three of my books are historical fiction and I guess in time they all will be. Let me introduce you to them one book at a time. Click on the links to learn more.
Whispers through Time is set in 1905 to 1912 London and Europe and ends in Sydney, Australia. It is the story of a family but mostly of two sisters who emigrate to Australia just months after the sinking of the Titanic. Once engaged in the fun of creative writing and historical research, I wrote a sequel to this story. However, Time Heal my Heart can be read as a stand-alone novel as well. It continues the tale of the two sisters, Winnie and Francesca once they settle in Australia. They fall in love and marry but soon their happiness is disrupted by the outbreak of World War One or The Great War as it was then called. The book features journeys across the ocean to France, Mont -Saint-Michel and the battlefields of the Somme.
While researching the Spanish Flu, suddenly exactly a century later, the coronavirus, Covid 19 erupted globally.
In lockdown in Genova, I tapped out the beginnings of a story after meeting stranded strangers at airports. Nobody could get a flight. Nobody could get a hotel They closed like a pack of dominos due to the lack of tourists and fear of contagion. The Last Hotel is loosely based on this situation. I added romance to the story of strangers assembled by necessity in the only hotel still open on the French Riviera. You can armchair travel in this book.
in between these fractured times, I wrote a lighter novel set here on the coast where I live. Colour comes to Tangles is the story of Tanya a hairdresser whose girlfriend, Josie disappears. About the same time a colour therapist, Vidisha opens a practice upstairs form Tanya. Classified as a mystery romance, this book takes you on a colourful journey from suburban Queensland to India. A read for any woman who has ever wanted to escape. Available on Kindle unlimited and as a paperback.
